Bus Service Cuts Have Left Residents Stranded - MP12.00.00am GMT Sun 25th Nov 2007 North Cornwall's MP, Dan Rogerson, has met with residents in the West Park area of Egloshayle as part of the campaign to have the local loop bus service reinstated. Buses which previously took West Park residents to town shops and services, ceased to serve the area two years ago, leaving residents with only a supermarket 'hoppa' service to get around on. The local MP says that may undermine shops in Wadebridge. Mr Rogerson has been working with the County Council to make streets in West Park more accessible to buses. Commenting, he said: "It's unacceptable that residents should be left stranded in this way. People simply can't afford to get taxis all the time. "The lack of a proper local bus service means that the supermarkets have free-reign to bring people in on their own routes. That puts local shops in Wadebridge at a disadvantage. "Following pressure from local residents and from me, the County Council has undertaken work to address concerns that the bus company had about the suitability of local streets for their vehicles. This work has now been completed so the ball is in the bus company's court. "Western Greyhound has a record of supporting local communities across North Cornwall. I am now sending them a petition from local residents, and I hope they will be able to reinstate what is clearly a popular service."
